TripleW
Climate One-Liner
TripleW decarbonizes food waste and transforms it into high-value, low-cost biomaterials, utilizing a climate transformative technology.
Description
TripleW is a food-waste to biomaterials company, which has developed, designed, and operates an industrial bioprocess to upcycle food waste into lactic acid and Poly Lactic Acid (PLA), a high-demand bioplastic. The drop-in technology upgrades existing waste management facilities, significantly increasing their product returns. Advantages of the TripleW process include:
- For each 1 kilogram of lactic acid produced from food waste, TripleW’s technology causes a net decrease of 0.7 kg of greenhouse gas emissions
- By using food waste instead of food crops (e.g., corn and sugar cane) for lactic acid production, zero arable land is used
- Fossil-based chemicals used in consumer goods are displaced by 100% renewable carbon
- TripleW technology also takes care of PLA bioplastic packaging waste by reusing it as feedstock for lactic acid production
