DTS - DirecTrainSystems
Climate One-Liner
Coupling trains in motion prevents wasting enormous amounts of energy for stopping at stations, decelerating, and accelerating again. It also cuts CO2 emissions by over 75% and provides much better usage of rail infrastructure and equipment for sustainable mobility. Passengers, freight and parcels transport can gain huge benefits by using Dynamic Coupling and significant impact in promoting the official UN sustainable development goals.
Description
DirecTrainS is developing a Dynamic Coupling (DC) system for rail which enables physical connection and disconnection of trains/cars on-the-run
quickly and safely, using existing infrastructure and rolling stock. Dynamic Coupling system combines physical components
with control and software systems in order to provide a flexible, modular train platooning for a desired timeslot
and safe parting of coupled trains/wagons when approaching destination. Applying DC to existing (and new) rolling stock increases rail capacity by over 40% and gives rail providers and operators, as well as infrastructure managers,
the ability to offer services not available today.
