Complementary to the Voluntary Carbon Market

In this last session of the course we will touch upon two topics that are complementary to the VCM. We will first deep dive with Dr. Ruth Dagan into the Article 6 rulebook of the Paris Agreement to understand the guidelines for international carbon trading involving governments, the planned centralized carbon credit issuing mechanism and the mobilization of private sector investment towards Article 6 mechanisms.

In the session led by Amos Zerah we will zoom-out from GHGs and climate and explore the environmental crisis through the lens of planetary boundaries, and then focus on the biodiversity crisis and its root causes. The interdependence of Nature and Climate will be explored and recent policy, tech, and financial market developments and the opportunities they create for entrepreneurs and investors (and us all) will be presented.

This week’s case study, presented by John Farner, will detail the journey Netafim has taken within the voluntary carbon market to attain certification for avoided emissions from rice fields, when implementing Netafim’s irrigation systems.
